Sickness and loss almost as awesome in their ability to inspire art expression as youth and love. One moment our bodies are strong, an illusion of how we assume we will always be, the next a fever, a sneeze, or a lump.

Before germs were discovered and understood, doctors used long nosed masks to keep distance between themselves and their patients. A red rose turning black and the notes of Mozart's Requiem, accent a pale mask worn by a young woman with bright red lips.

Before I start painting, I dig deep into what I'm feeling, what I've gone through, how it has changed and shaped me. I look for common ground with my fellow travelers.
